Be a Part of the Art

Check out these installations in our neighborhood — they encourage total immersion, inviting visitors to interact with the work.

Take a trip without leaving Chelsea Market at Artechouse, a new digital art space that recently debuted its first New York exhibition, Machine Hallucination. The large-scale piece by Turkish artist Refik Anadol is comprised of 300 million 3-D images of NYC that converge in seriously trippy ways to create an Instagram-worthy synesthetic experience in Chelsea Market’s vast boiler room.

Guests of The High Line Hotel receive 10% off tickets using promo code: HLH10. Offer available online only. Other restrictions may apply. See website for terms & conditions.

Artechouse, 439 W 15th Street | Runs through January 5 | Sun-Thurs: 10 AM- 9 PM; Fri-Sat: 10 AM- 10 PM | Adults, $24; Children, $17; Students/Seniors/Military, $20

Reflect upon space and time — and take a minute to snap a selfie, obviously — among the LED lights and silver orbs that make up Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room – Dancing Lights That Flew Up to The Universe at David Zwirner Gallery. The Japanese artist has developed a cult following for her Infinity Rooms, which beg to be photographed. This latest 13-and-a-half-foot installation accompanies an exhibition of new surrealist canvas paintings from Kusama’s “My Eternal Soul” series.

David Zwirner Gallery, 525 and 533 West 19th Street | Runs through Dec. 16 | Tues-Sat: 11 AM- 6 PM | Free

Gain a few new perspectives at The Museum of Illusions. The family-friendly space is filled with holograms and hands-on showpieces that allow visitors to become part of the optical illusions. The mind-bending interactive exhibits on-site include an Anti-Gravity Room, a Rotating Room and a Bottomless Pit — plus one curious installation that answers the question: “What would my head look like on a platter?”

The Museum of Illusion, 77 Eighth Avenue | Mon-Thurs: 9 AM- 10 PM; Fri-Sun: 8 AM – 11 PM | Adults, $19; Children (6-13), $15; Children under 6, free; Students/Seniors/Military, $17; Family (2 adults, 2 children), $53
